Baobab The Giant Tree From Madagascar

Baobab the Tree of Life
Baobab is the common name of a genus (Adansonia), which consists of eight species of tree native to Madagascar, mainland Africa and Australia. Mainland African species also exist in Madagascar, but not native country. Another common name is the boab and boaboa.  Baobab digitata, or Baobab tree, named same with Bouganvilea which named  to honor the discover, Baobab also named to honor of Michel Adanson, the naturalist who first saw in Senegal, Africa about 1750.

Baobab can reaches a height of between 5-25 m. They store water in their stems, with a capacity above 120.00 liters to survive in the environment around them. Each seasons change size of trunk changes depending on the amount of water at capacity & that is in use.

The form is unusual compared to other plants, the Baobab by the African community is considered a magical tree, and some even deem that the baobab is a tree removed from the sky that falls to earth in reverse, although this tree can still grow.  If we see from the shaped it is look like roots that are above.

Adult Baobab can reach stem circumference of around 3-5 meters, or it takes about 80-10 people to be able to hug him. It weighs one reaches 60-120 tons more. This tree can survive up to 100 years.

Baobab, often referred to as the Tree of Life. Because, can giving the life to various types of animals around. Beings, little creatures scurrying in and out of the crevices of the trunk, the birds nest on the branch, monkeys eat the fruit, fruit bats drink the nectar and pollinate the flowers, not to mention the elephant a break down and consume all parts of the tree.


In addition Baobab stem can expel water if holes or sliced, the fruit contains more vitamin C than oranges and leaves can be treated as a vegetable. His skin can also be used for various public purposes, such as materials to make ropes, and clothing. In addition various substances in the tree are also used as ingredients in traditional medicine. By a native African tree is used for the cemetery and as a shelter, there are holes on the bark used for storage of grains.
